Salomon: Mountain DNA, size guide and Quicklace lacing

Salomon : ADN montagnard, guide des tailles et laçage Quicklace

Whether it’s tearing up muddy trails or hitting the pavement in a pair of XT-6s, Salomon has made its mark everywhere. Yet, two questions constantly come up: “Why don't my laces have knots?” and above all, “What size should I choose?”.

From Annecy to the podiums: where does Salomon come from?

Born in 1947 in Annecy, in the heart of the French Alps, the brand first revolutionized skiing with its metal edges and bindings. It was only later that it transposed this alpine expertise to trail running, by designing shoes capable of handling scree, elevation changes, and mud.Today, Salomon combines two worlds:

Mountain and performance: raw grip (Contagrip soles) and foot protection in extreme conditions.

Streetwear and gorpcore: iconic models (XT-6, XT-4, ACS Pro) adopted on runways and in the streets for their technical and utilitarian aesthetic.

Quicklace: how to use the magic lacing system

The majority of models feature the patented Quicklace™ system: a knot-free Kevlar lace that tightens with a single motion. No need to force it; here is how to proceed:

1. Unlock the slider:

Pinch the plastic slider (toggle) and slide it downward to loosen the instep and easily slip your foot in.

2. Adjust the tension:

Hold the slider with one hand against the top of the instep, then pull the loop upward with your other hand until you reach the desired hold.

3. Lock the position:

Slide the toggle down until it rests against the tongue: the fit is locked and won't move all day.

4. Tuck the excess into the pocket: the step 80% of people forget.

At the top of the tongue is an elastic mesh pocket (Lace Pocket). Coil the excess lace with the slider and tuck them inside to keep them from dangling.

Sizing guide: how do Salomons fit?

The golden rule: Salomon fits small and narrow. The internal support (Sensifit) wraps the foot very closely to prevent any rubbing on slopes.

General rule based on your foot

  • Standard or narrow foot (city use): go up a half size (+ 0.5 size). The fit is naturally snug at the midfoot.
  • Wide foot or high instep: go up a full size (+ 1 size). The toe box is narrow on the Sportstyle range.
  • Trail or hiking use: systematically go up one size (+ 1 size). The foot swells during prolonged exertion and slides slightly forward on descents; this extra room prevents black toenails.

Reference by flagship model

  • XT-6 and XT-4: very sharp cut. Count at least + 0.5, or even + 1 with slightly thicker socks.
  • ACS Pro and ACS +: slightly more permissive volume at the forefoot, but a + 0.5 remains the most comfortable choice.
  • Speedcross: trail running profile, particularly narrow. Go for + 0.5 to + 1 without hesitation.
